Virtual Sales Training: Live Instructor-Led Programs for Distributed Teams

Ten providers that run live, instructor-led sales training for remote and distributed teams, what each one delivers online, and the questions that separate a real live program from a recorded course with a chat window.

Virtual sales training is live, instructor-led sales training delivered over Zoom, Teams, or a provider's own platform, with breakouts, role-play, and live coaching. The providers below all document live virtual delivery on their profiles: Winning by Design runs its programs as virtual cohorts, RAIN Group built a virtual selling curriculum early, and Mercuri and ValueSelling deliver across 50+ countries and 17+ languages. A live cohort runs $1,500 to $4,000 per seller in our cost guide.

What counts as virtual sales training

Live and synchronous: the sellers and the facilitator are in the session at the same time, practicing in breakouts and getting feedback on the spot. A library of recorded modules is a different product, covered in our online sales training guide. If you are still deciding between a live virtual program and an onsite workshop, start with virtual vs in-person sales training, which compares engagement, cost and follow-through format by format. This page assumes you have chosen live virtual and need a provider.

Ten providers and how each delivers live

Every row below comes from the provider's profile in our directory. Where a profile documents a format, a platform or a reach figure, it is here; where it does not, we leave the cell general rather than guess.

Seven questions to ask before you sign

Most providers say they deliver virtually. These questions show whether a program was designed for the screen or moved onto it.

  1. How many sellers per cohort, and per breakout? Role-play works in breakouts of three to five. A cohort far larger than that turns practice into watching.
  2. Who facilitates, and will we meet them before we sign? On a screen, the facilitator carries the energy of the session. Ask for the named person, not the bench.
  3. What do sellers practice on between sessions? The strongest programs assign work on live deals between sessions and review it in the next one.
  4. Are sessions recorded, and who can see the recordings? Recorded role-plays are useful coaching material. They are also seller data, so agree the access rules up front.
  5. What reinforcement runs after the last session? Ask whether coaching, a reinforcement platform or manager tools are included or priced separately.
  6. What do our managers do during the program? A program that leaves managers out tends to fade once the cohort ends.
  7. Which platform, and does it need anything installed? Zoom and Microsoft Teams are standard. A provider's own platform should earn its place with practice or coaching features your team will use.

How a live cohort is usually structured

The common pattern is sessions of 90 to 120 minutes, once or twice a week, for 4 to 12 weeks. A session opens with a short frame on the topic, spends most of its time on practice in breakouts, and closes with a group debrief and commitments for the week. Cameras on is the norm. Some programs, such as Force Management's Command Series, run in waves over several months instead of a single cohort.

Cost

Our sales training cost guide puts a live virtual cohort at $1,500 to $4,000 per seller one-time and self-paced online programs at $500 to $1,500. Per-seller pricing for a live cohort is close to an in-person workshop; the difference in total cost usually comes from travel and time away from selling, which the format comparison walks through. Frequently asked questions

What is virtual sales training?

Live, instructor-led sales training delivered remotely over Zoom, Teams, or a provider's own platform. Sellers and the facilitator are in the session together, with breakouts, role-play, and live coaching.

Which providers offer live virtual sales training?

Providers whose profiles document live virtual delivery include Richardson Sales Performance, RAIN Group, Winning by Design, Mercuri International, ValueSelling Associates, Corporate Visions, Force Management, Janek Performance Group, MEDDIC Academy, and Pavilion. Winning by Design delivers its programs as virtual cohorts; Mercuri and ValueSelling cover 50+ countries and 17+ languages.

How long is a virtual sales training session?

90 to 120 minutes is the common length, once or twice a week for 4 to 12 weeks. Shorter sessions leave little room for breakouts and practice.

What platforms are used for virtual sales training?

Zoom and Microsoft Teams are standard. Some providers add their own platforms for reinforcement, such as Richardson Sales Cloud or ValueSelling's eValuePrompter mobile tool.

Is virtual sales training effective for role-play?

It can be, when the program uses small breakouts of three to five sellers and gives feedback on the spot. Recorded role-plays also give managers material to coach from, with access rules agreed up front.

How much does virtual sales training cost?

A live virtual cohort runs $1,500 to $4,000 per seller one-time in our sales training cost guide. Self-paced online programs run $500 to $1,500.

Can a virtual program include coaching?

Yes. Ask whether coaching, a reinforcement platform, or manager tools continue after the last session and whether they are priced separately. Programs that leave managers out tend to fade once the cohort ends.
